Series of Seats

These easily recognizable objects were altered by using a router to cut a path and unsanded grout to fill in the channel.

All of the simple line figurative images come from various sports instructional books. Targeted for the aspiring young adult athlete, these manuals often display the figure in a series of "frames" that convey motion (Muybridge) and the proper form while the text seems to fade from the page and becomes unnecessary.

It is the artists intention that these Seats are to be installed for use in their proper environment!

Similar to the artist's outdoor site specific sculpture ideas, an object has been placed in a unique or common location where the viewer is not prepared to see art. In this situation, the art initiates the dialogue with the viewer; an unanticipated experience with art. This dialogue might consist of gender in sports, strength, the limitations of assigning categories and commodification.
