Vessel Paths: 9/11 Airport Memorial Proposal

Site: Logan International Airport

View the original online presentation.

Objective: To create a memorial sculpture that effectively reaches the viewer when seen from a distance and that also engages the viewer in an intimate manner. Because of the high traffic of pedestrians that circulate on the perimeter of the site in the elevated walkways, it is essential that sculpture be visually accessible from this distance by providing an unanticipated experience for the traveler. Upon closer investigation, the viewer has the option to further engage with the sculpture in a tactile exploration. An intimate tactile experience, such as touching the names in relief of the passengers, is offered to the viewer to assist with the healing process.

Objective: To create a site specific, temporary outdoor sculpture installed on the grounds of The School of the Museum of Fine Arts that engages the viewer, the earth and sorounding the architecture. Conceptually attempting to subtly provoke a dialogue with references that include: The highlighting of the liminal space or path between the two institutions and the exagerrated grass (paper) scroll as a form of numeric documentation and time documentation.
